One of the best things you can do for yourself is a post race massage! I have done it for myself several times and
have scheduled it for friends! And the
facilities at Disney are awesome and some that you should really take advantage
of after a runDisney half marathon or marathon!
First, What are the Benefits of Massage – Why should you get it?
The major benefit of massage is that it relaxes tense muscles and removes adhesions. Relaxation is an overlooked aspect of training. Recovery is the other major benefit of massage. Massage can reduce pain and the intensity of muscle soreness.
What type of Massage should I get?
All the spas at Disney offer the most popular massages:
Deep Tissue – deep, penetrating massage that will work out tight spots.
Swedish – relaxing, tension relieving
If you’ve never had deep tissue, then I would schedule Swedish. Be sure and tell the therapist any particular bothersome muscles, and they can work those a little deeper.
Where can you get massages as Disney?
At Walt Disney World:
Coronado Springs Resort: Basic Massage Services
Dolphin Hotel: Full Spa Experience
Grand Floridian Resort: Full Spa Experience
Saratoga Springs Resort: Full Spa Experience
Yacht Club Resort: Basic Massage Services
Animal Kingdom Lodge: Basic Massage Services
At Disneyland
Grand Californian: Full Spa Experience
Which one should you choose?
The Basic Massage Services are going to be easier to book. Coronado Springs is out of the way and is often overlooked!
The Full Spa Experience could include body treatments, facials, hot stones, etc.
Prices start at $115 and go up, depending on services, to as much as $300.
When to book?
As soon as possible – 6 months in advance is not too far out.
What are the Details?
Spas Open at 9am daily – closing time varies
Cancel 4 hours before your appointment to avoid being charged full price for the Spa
Arrive 30 minutes early
Check with your Dr before you go, if you have any concerns
Use the time after your runDisney event to not only celebrate your achievement but to treat your body to a jump start on recovery!
