We all have to start again at some point: If we are honest with ourselves, none of us go non-stop into fitness. There are always times when we need to take a break; we just don't need too long a break because the rhythm of being fit is harder to find again.
Personally, I took some time off after my last Half Marathon in April. But, now it's time to get busy again with my next Half scheduled for September! Since I know many of you have told me that you need a way to jump start into fitness, I've been researching ways to do just that! And here are 5 easy ways to Jump Start Your Fitness Program!
1. Do A Cleanse
Cleansing helps the body to get rid of the bad bacteria
and leftover gunk in our digestive systems, kidneys, and liver. It gives you time to focus on drinking water, think about proper nutrition, and to start weight loss program, too! There are many ways to cleanse on the market these days. Some are very drastic and not really for me. However, I have found a really good plan by BeachBody, called 3-Day Refresh, that I am going to be starting in June. It has the fiber you need for a cleanse, but allows you to eat a range of foods, too.
2. Treat Yourself to Something New
We all feel better when we have something new to wear! And to be honest, our old workout clothes might not fit, or those old running shoes are worn out... So, why not treat yourself to something new! If you don't want spend a lot of money upfront (after all we hope to be buying new, smaller sizes...) try Old Navy, Wal Mart, or TJ Max; these stores are all great choices for a budget!
3. Start with Something You Love
If you have never been a runner, then don't start your fitness program by running! Start with walking, aerobics, riding your bike, dust off the weights, anything that you are familiar with, and can jump right in doing. You can also look for challenges, such as Plank Challenges, Squat Challenges, etc., to give a focus each day. You can always move into trying something new, the idea is just to get moving!
4. Keep the Water Handy
Water is essential for any fitness program. You need it to stay hydrated and as your go-to drink when you start getting the munchies. Many times your body just needs water not more cookies... so drink a glass of water when those afternoon hungries hit!
5. Find Encouragement
We all need someone to lift us up from time to time, and starting back into a fitness plan is a perfect time to seek out support. It could be simply getting a friend to join with you, or it could be engaging in a Facebook Group, running group or reading fitness magazines. You can also join me at The Kessel Runner on FaceBook !
Just like your car battery needs a jump to get started sometimes, our fitness routines do, too! It may have been a few weeks, a few months or a few years, but now is the perfect time to get your engines running!
