I've been a Road ID proponent for years! And it's not just popular with me; the Road ID is a favorite
way of identification for sports enthusiasts, too!
But, what exactly is a Road ID? The Road ID is a wearable bracelet, anklet, necklace or shoe Identification that contains an essential message you want others to know in an emergency. You have up to 6 lines of information that you can add to your ID such as your name, emergency contacts or special medical information: the ID becomes your voice when you are not able to speak.

Is it just for athletes? who really needs it? I believe that it is essential for everyone in your family to own a Road ID. If you are not sure about how your family could use one, here are some considerations to think about:
Think: what happens if my toddlers or young children get lost in a crowded situation such as Disney World, Universal Studios, the zoo, or the State Fair?
- how will someone know to contact you?
Think: what happens if my special needs child, Alzheimer's parent or Stroke survivor needs help?
- doesn't remember their address or phone number, not able to verbally communicate or become sick/unconscious
- how will they get help?
Think: what happens if a family member gets injured or sick away from home? while at college?
- no family or friends nearby to relay information to doctors
- delayed evaluation and treatment due to lack of information such as drug allergies, medical conditions, and blood type
Think: what happens if someone you know is injured while running, biking, hiking, skiing?
- emergency medical teams will not know vital information
- who will the hospital contact?
Think: what if you are in a car accident, in shock, disoriented and can't respond?
- how will your family know you are safe? or in the hospital?
- how will the medical team know you are a diabetic? your blood type? have asthma? or epilepsy?
We never want to think about these unexpected circumstances and the dangers of being in our world; but it's good to prepare for them before they happen.
The Road ID will be your Swiss Army Knife of Identification! And I definitely want to be seen wearing it!
How about you and your family?
