The Princess Half Marathon started eight months ago as Team GlistenRun began training for the race. We all were busy with family, jobs and life and that meant having a training plan as a guideline; the reality, we trained when we could even if that was late at night. We spent months getting race ready, and it wasn't accomplished without some obstacles: we had injuries and illnesses and really cold weather to challenge us. These barriers didn't stop us but made us stronger as a team.
Nevertheless, we were all looking forward with enthusiasm to the Princess Half Marathon ! For some of us, this race would be our very first half which brought a load of anticipation and excitement with it; and for all of us, it was made special by our families taking the journey to Disney with us! All of our hard work was worth it and we enjoyed every minute!
Our day started early: up at 3:15am and out our door by 3:45am.
We were on the bus to Epcot at 4:00am, and then received a text from Joel - he was already there!
We had decided to all be Racing Villains: Cruella, Ursula, Gaston, Evil Queen, Hook and Red Queen!
Joel and Tash went as Gaston and Hook, respectively. And both received quite a bit of attention! The girls were crazy over these two!
We all made it to our respective corrals, and off we went!
The six miles to the Magic Kingdom had us surrounded in Fog!
It was absolutely breathtaking when we saw Kites dancing in the fog to "Let's Go Fly a Kite"
And we made it to the Magic Kingdom! (Tash is the Master at Selfies!)
We were so happy to see the Castle! It was a planned photo stop for all of us. We were worried because we thought we had lost Margaux, but she found us just in time for our Girl Shot in front of the Castle!
We photo bombed the Bad Girls.... since we were the bad girls, too!
And Royal Mickey and Minnie! The lines were so long for the characters, it just seemed best to sneak a picture!
Kathy HAD to stop for this one picture, it was on her must do list. But that was the only time we stopped!
It was unquestionably energizing to run through the Magic Kingdom! A memory of a lifetime!
I managed to snap a picture of Snow White and Mary Poppins on the way to the Mile 6 Water Stop!
And we were back on the road to Epcot! We just kept moving because you could see the Golf Ball in the distance. It was getting closer.
You were never alone on the road: it was very crowded. You can see Lori surrounded by runners.
Our view as we ran the overpass toward Epcot. We were just down there! So overwhelming to think about.
The sun was well up, but it was still overcast which really helped these last few miles. We were all tired and just need to push through. I have done this same route before during other runDisney races, and I had hoped the Gospel Choir would be waiting for us as at Epcot. And I wasn't disappointed!
I love their dedication to these races! It is so inspiring to hear them, and just when you need it most!
The finish line was near and I was filled with emotion! I loved training with everyone and thank them for sharing the journey with me! We have become more than just running buddies; we have become friends. And best yet, we had our families waiting for us at the end!
The Chear Squad view as they were waiting for us! They would text us "are you close yet?" The runner tracking wasn't exactly keeping up with us and they wanted be sure to be at the finish cheering us on! We all enjoyed having our families there!
We had the best Chear Squad Ever! Thanks Guys!
Joelly loved being with her Dad!
It was a wonderful world of Disney weekend! And we were happy for our accomplishments, but sad to leave to Disney!
So with medals in hand, we left with pixy dust in our eyes and the love of Disney running in our hearts!
Until Next Time!
