This past February, I went to Disney World and shared my FitBit and MyFitnessPal experiences over the Princess Half Marathon Weekend. It was really amazing to see how much activity you actually get on vacation and how many calories you consume, too!
As with everyone, keeping up with fitness at home is hard, and being on vacation, can make it seem impossible! But in order to balance having fun with keeping to my fitness goals, I needed to have a plan of action. So, I reviewed how I've been doing over the last 5 months, included the Aria scale in my plan, and am ready to try this experiment again at Star Wars Weekends!
How it all works:
The FitBit keeps track of the daily motions of your normal life: the steps you walk, the stairs you climb and the activities perform throughout the day. You will be able to set goals for these activities and watch your progress throughout the day.
The Aria scale, was built to work with FitBit by providing feedback on weight goals and body fat. Once you turn on the Aria scale, you can connect to your home WiFi, and sync both the FitBit and Aria together.
By adding the MyFitnessPal calorie counter to the system, you are able to enter your calories consumed, and have the FitBit and MyFitnessPal talk to each other so that your calories burned and calories remaining are calculated for you! Connecting everything together is very easy can be done under the Apps option on the MyFitnessPal Main Menu.
You can see from this menu, that MyFitnessPal is connected to my FitBit and my Aria scale, so they are seamlessly integrated with my life.
Next lets look at my progress since the Princess Half:
- 7 lbs loss
- 2% reduction in body fat
- 1 pt reduction in BMI
And I've consistently kept 10000 or more steps.
My goals for Star Wars Weekends:
During the Princess Half Race-vacation, on 2 non-race days, I was able to get in an average of 20000 steps and keep under 1200 calories total.
I am planning on having the same activity level in the parks as I did during the Princess Half Marathon Weekend, and maybe even have more energy since I'm not racing! So, based on these results my goals for the upcoming Star Wars Weekends will be per day:
- 20000 steps
- 10 Miles
- 80 active minutes
- 1200 calorie diet
- No Weight Gain
How to stay on track:
The great thing about the FitBit and MyFitnessPal is they will always be with me. The Fitbit comfortably fits on my wrist and records my active moments for me! I have a daily routine of logging what I eat, and the MyFitnessPal has easy access to Disney menu items. Even if you don't have a routine built yet for tracking your calories, just take a moment before you leave the table or while you are waiting in line and record the meal. Keeping track of my calories should be easy and convenient!
I just need to remember that I don't want to loose all of my progress over the past 3 months to a galaxy far, far away!
I will be updating you on my progress every day, so that you can see what works and doesn't work for me and how these gadgets are easily worked into a vacation. I plan on making fitness possible even though I'm away from home and keeping the Force in my weekend!
